    Arm balances are highly effective in developing body strength - arms, hands, shoulders, wrists, back and most importantly, our core. Being strong protects us and makes our bodies more efficient. When we become more aware of our core and how to strengthen it, we are on our way to upside-down/inversion poses. 

    Inversions build confidence. We find equanimity on our hands to balance. Approach them with confidence and appreciate the many benefits they bring. De-mystify the many misconceptions of going upside down. 

    Join Sandy Shum for a fun-filled and highly immersive 4-day intensive to gain better awareness and control of your body. You will learn the relevant skill sets to get into arm balancing and upside-down poses. Even if you have no immediate goal of becoming an inversion junkie, the skills needed to develop a free-standing inversion pose provide a unique experience and greater understanding of your mind and body in the long run

    Session 1 & 2:  Arm Balances Intensive weekend 

    5 & 6 October 2024 (Sat & Sun) 

    2:00pm to 05:00pm 


    Sessions will focus on: 


    • Proper warm-up for arm balancing 

    • Learn more about our body, develop a more trusting relationship with our bodies and ourselves 

    • Building upper body and core strength 

    •  Experience lightness while becoming grounded and buoyant 

    •  Explore how arm balances create a space when we take leaps of faith 


    You will learn and explore correct techniques on: 

    •  Adho mukha savanasana (downward facing dog) 

    •  Chaturanga dandasana (four-limbed staff pose) 

    • Vasistasana (side plank)  

    • From  kakasana (crow) to bakasana (crane) 

    • Eka Pada Koundiyasana Series 

    • Titibhasana 

    • And many more arm balances without straining your muscles but feeling light!  


    Session 3 & 4:  Inversion Intensive weekend 

    12 & 13 October 2024 (Sat & Sun) 

    2:00pm - 5:00pm


    Sessions will focus on: 


    • Start from the basic techniques to prepare yourself for a hands-down journey 

    •   Inversions 101 

    •   Healing inversions that energize and calm the nervous system 

    •   Heating inversions that get more blood moving to the brain, resulting in physical invigoration and mental revitalization 

    •  Intermediate inversions and how to approach them 


    Sessions will include: 

    • Headstand (Shirsasana) 

    • Forearm Stand (Pincha Mayurasana) and its variation:  Scorpion (Vrschikasana) 

    • Handstand (Ardho Mukha Vrksasana) 

    • Chin Stand (Ganda Bherundasana) 

    • Shoulder Stand (Sarvangasana) 

    • Wheel Pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana 

    • Forearm Wheel Pose (Dwipada Viparita Dandasana)
