Explore how strength, coordination and the ability to release work together to support movement.
Saturday & Sunday, 23–24 January 2027 9am–12pm each day PURE YOGA NGEE ANN CITY
Two days · 3 hours per day · 6 hours in total No advanced yoga or Pilates practice required.
Early bird: S$220 for one day or S$400 for both days.
What does it actually mean to have a strong core?
The core is often treated as a group of muscles that need to be tightened, strengthened or constantly engaged. But the support we need changes continuously with our position, load, balance, breathing and movement.
Sometimes we need more strength. Other times, better coordination, timing or the ability to release unnecessary tension.
In this two-day workshop, April Lu explores the Powerhouse as an adaptable system. Drawing from Pilates, yoga, functional anatomy and movement exploration, you will investigate how the pelvis, spine, abdominal wall and breathing system work together to create stability and support.
Learn when to create support, how much you need and when to let go. Apply these principles to everyday movement and your yoga or Pilates practice through practical experiments and progressively challenging sequences.
For curious movers
This workshop is for anyone who wants to understand their body beyond simply following movement instructions.
Yoga and Pilates practitioners: deepen your understanding of core strength, stability and movement mechanics.
Teachers: explore how support and movement coordinate, with ideas to inform your own understanding and teaching.
Anyone interested in movement: develop body awareness, coordination and movement quality.
No advanced yoga or Pilates practice is required. Variations will be provided for different levels of experience.
Understand it. Apply it.
Both days form one progressive learning experience, with the foundations of Day 1 supporting the practical applications of Day 2.
SATURDAY, 23 JANUARY 2027 · 9am–12pm
Day 1: UNDERSTAND
Anatomy · Awareness · Foundation
Build a deeper understanding of the Powerhouse through anatomy, theory and practical movement exploration.

Explore the relationship between core strength, mobility and control.
Develop a foundation for more dynamic movement.
SUNDAY, 24 JANUARY 2027 · 9am–12pm
Day 2: APPLY
Dynamic Stability · Balance · Integration
Explore how the centre responds as movement becomes more dynamic and demanding.
Investigate changing bases of support, shifts in the centre of mass, transitions, rotation and weight-bearing challenges.
Move into single-leg balance, whole-body coordination and upper-body weight bearing, exploring how strength, stability and mobility adapt to one another.
Recognise when the body needs greater support, when it needs freedom to move and how to coordinate both.
