About the Workshop

Discover the beauty of ballet together in this special Parent & Child experience, created for aspiring young dancers and the grown-ups who want to share in their first ballet journey.

Suitable for children aged 6 - 14 years old* who are complete beginners, this workshop introduces the foundations of ballet through a fun, accessible, and fitness-inspired approach. Rather than focusing on perfect technique, you will explore how ballet develops strength, posture, balance, coordination and body awareness—skills that benefit every child both in and out of the studio.

Led by Singapore Ballet dancer Sayaka Yamauchi, the session begins with gentle Ballet Pilates-inspired exercises to awaken the core, improve alignment and prepare the body for movement. From there, you will progress into ballet-inspired conditioning exercises designed to strengthen the legs, glutes and postural muscles, while being introduced to the fundamentals of turnout, coordination and ballet movement.

Learn the foundations of ballet, including basic foot and arm positions, posture and alignment, before exploring beginner-friendly movements such as pliés, relevés and tendus at the barre and in the centre.

The workshop finishes with a simple port de bras sequence set to music, ending with a traditional ballet reverence to celebrate your very first ballet experience.

* Children under the age of 6 may still be eligible to participate. Please email us to enquire if your child is below this age and interested in joining.

Before We Dance...

There will be a 30-minute Ballet Slipper Craft Session, where each child and parent will have the opportunity to decorate a pair of authentic ballet slipper together and bring home a unique keepsake from the day.

Please note: The ballet slippers used for the craft session have been generously donated by Singapore Ballet. While they are authentic ballet slippers, they are intended solely for this craft activity and are not suitable for dancing or personal use.
